Tonight at RITC 157, Kelley Oser finished his sixth opponent in a row, this one by first round TKO. All of Kelley’s victories have come by either submission, knockout or TKO, making him a dynamic and exciting fighter to watch. The team is headed to Japan tomorrow for UFC 144 and the showdown for the lightweight belt with Frankie Edgar. This has been a good camp, and the team is ready to go.

We have been a little slow to post this, but last week Darren Hall was promoted to blue belt! Darren has been one of the very tough guys at the Lab for a long time, but he trained only in the no gi classes. We finally talked him into putting on a gi, and , surprise, he is a monster in his gi too! Darren is about to finish up his medical school and just got married, so life for this young man is looking very promising! We just feel very lucky to have him around….Congratulations Darren!
On Saturday night in Payson, AZ, Kelley Oser won his fifth amateur fight by launching a brutal head kick at 12 seconds in the very first round. With this incredible knockout victory, Kelley now moves his undefeated record to 5-0, with all 5 wins coming by submission or knockout. We are very proud of Kelley and the hard work that he has put in. Look forward to big things from this young man as we go into 2012. Congratulations KO!
On Saturday, at the MMA Lab Holiday Party, two very deserving young men, Jonathan Hill and Kauai Kapuhea,were promoted to purple belt. Kauai has been a stand out competitor in the valley for years and is one of our most seasoned vets on the team. Jonathan has been tearing people up in class lately and is going to give people a very hard time at this belt.
We are very proud of these guys and are happy to have them on the team. Congratulations Jonathan and Kauai!

On Saturday, January 14, the MMA Lab hosted a holiday party and what a great time! Bueno Burger provided great free food, “the” Reynaldo Moreno provided the entertainment, and the Jiu Jitsu promotions were great. The very first JCBJJ black belts were Morgan Patnode and Josh Kemper of Mile High Gracie Jiu Jitstu. What an honor to see such wonderful, dedicated guys reach a long strived for goal! Our JCBJJ affiliates were all in one place for the first time as Kevin Scott (Goodyear BJJ) received his brown belt, Santino DeFranco (Southwest MMA) was promoted to 3rd degree brown belt, and Morgan and Josh (Mile High Gracie) were promoted to black.

One of our very best competitors was named the 2011 AZSBJJF Women’s MVP. Maria Magana had and outstanding year in 2011, capturing 3 gold , 2 silver and 1 bronze medal. Through her hard work and these terrific results, she was named MVP! We are all very proud of Maria, and look forward to many more great things from her. Congratulations Maria!
Efrain arrived in Vegas on Monday to begin his pre-fight preparations for UFC 141. He was glad to be back in Vegas and at the MGM Grand, the site of his last UFC victory.
