New Brown Belts at the MMA LAB

It is a great pleasure to announce the promotion of two guys that have been around the LAB since the very beginning; David Brady and Jonathan Hill. These guys have been an important part of what we have built  at the LAB, and we are very proud of their great work over the years.

Thank you guys, we could not have done it without you. Congratulations!

JCBJJ Technique of the Month: March 2015

Better late than never!  Here it is, the March version of our technique of the month.  Joe Murphy takes this one, showing us a cool entrance to a triangle from a very common position.  Joe has been at the LAB a little less than a year, but has made himself an invaluable asset in our LAB family.  From teaching kids and adults, to fixing anything in the building, Joe has made our team better, and we are so very happy that he is with us.  Thanks Joe, and we hope you all enjoy the technique!

JCBJJ Technique of the Month: January 2015

Happy New Year!

Chris Zubrycki is back again, this time showing us a cool finish to a bottom half guard kimura.

Chris is a LAB original,  helps teach classes, and is a fierce competitor as well.  He is a mainstay at the MMA LAB, and we feel very lucky to have him on our team.

Thanks for the technique Chris!

LAB Elite go 3-1 at UFC Phoenix

The UFC came to Phoenix for the first time, and our Elite Team had four fighters competing on the card.

David Michaud started us out with a tough UD victory.  This was David’s first time at 155, and he looked great, dominating his opponent throughout.

Bryan Barberena was next, taking on tough, highly regarded Joe Ellenberger.  Bryan started slowly, but got his rhythm going in the second.  He kept the momentum going, and finished Ellenberger in the third round. Great performance by Bryan.

John Moraga took the stage and impressively finished his opponent by RNC in the third round.  John is close to getting another shot at the 125 belt, and will be ready to go when he gets that call.

Joe Riggs injured his neck while slamming his opponent to the ground, during his UFC return.  It was a disappointing way to end the night, but Joe will be back stronger than ever in his next performance.

We are very proud of all these athletes, and the hard work that they put in.  Congratulations!

Well, it’s been a little while, but here we go again!  This month Luis Ordonez shows us a good counter when an opponent escapes from a straight armlock.  Hope you guys enjoy the video!

IBJJF World Champion Tanquinho Mendes Wins at Legacy Fights

Tanquinho Mendes is one of the most prolific competitors in modern BJJ, having won two No-Gi World Championships, and an IBJJ World Gi title as well.  Since turning his attention to MMA, Tanquinho has won four fights, all by submission, with his last win coming at Legacy Fights in Houston, TX.  Winning by RNC just 30 seconds into the first round, Tanquinho has put the MMA world on notice that he is on his way.  We are so lucky to work with such a dedicated and talented athlete, and are very excited to see his progress as we all continue together.  Congratulations Tanquinho, well done!
